Belgium: Crammed Disc, the renowned avant-rock/pop band formed in '77 around Marc Hollander (key), the head of Crammed Disc who became the darling of '80s European New Wave/Alternative/Avant Rock and was also a member of the later COS, released this '80 album, which received its first CD release in '95. With a completely new lineup from the previous album, this project-oriented work by Marc Hollander features Catherine Jauniaux (vocals), who later became active in DES AIRS/THE HAT SHOES; Michel Berckmans (bassoon/oboe) of UNIVERS ZERO; and Fred Frith (bass/guitar/violin/viola), who was active in ART BEARS at the time, along with Chris Cutler (percussion/drums/radio).While retaining the Avant Pop/New Wave sensibilities showcased in their previous work, they've shifted towards a sound reminiscent of HENRY COW/ART BEARS' Recomended-style approach. This masterpiece brilliantly fuses kitschy accessibility with serious, complex structures and developments, epitomized by the distorted deconstruction/re-arrangement of Bo Diddley's 'A Modern Lesson'! As a bonus, it includes the previously unreleased '81 track 'Bosses de crosses (feat. THE HONEYMOON KILLERS)'. [1 bonus track included]
