The long-awaited third release from RED HOOK LIMITED, hosted by former ECM producer Sun Chung! The third release from RED HOOK LIMITED, organized by former ECM producer Sun Chung, features a concert at a church with the participation of UK-ordered pianist Kit Downes, who will lead the next generation of ECM, on organ. The concert was held at the Cologne Jazz Week Festival in September 2021, and Kit Downes, a BBC Jazz Award-winning and Mercury Prize-nominated pianist who will lead the next generation of ECM, participated on the organ. New Zealand saxophonist Hayden Chisholm, known for his unique microtonal tuning, performs alto saxophone, shrutibox, analog synthesizer, and throat singing, and PJEV, a five-member female a cappella vocal choir from Zagreb, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and will enchant with their traditional singing style. Of the 15 songs on the recording, eight are trad songs representing different regions of the Balkans, each reflecting the characteristics of vocal styles that have developed over the centuries. Pianist Downes recorded this album using the organ of the Cologne Agnes Church.It is a grand three-manual Rieger organ, with 32' reeds on the pedals, shimmering cymbelsterns, glassy nazars and tias partials, and undulating soft ascending strings. The combination of sounds in the archaic acoustics is powerful and echoes across history.
