The recording was made in December 2013 at a New York studio equipped with a top-of-the-line vintage Steinway model selected by Masaaki Kikuchi himself. Mr. Sun Chung, who worked as a producer alongside Manfred Eicher at ECM, was shocked by Masaaki Kikuchi's performance with Paul Motian's band at the New York Village Vanguard in 2011, and was completely fascinated.
