His new recording has arrived. For his eighth solo album on Virgin—and his second collaboration with Aim—Jarski has chosen Caldara, a composer born in Venice who built his career in Mantua, Barcelona, Rome, and finally Vienna. All the arias are from operas with librettos by Metastasio (1698–1782); “La clemenza di Tito” was performed 60 years before the premiere of Mozart’s work (1791), and “Demofonte,” which premiered in 1733, is said to have inspired more than 70 stage works by Gluck, Paisiello, Piccini, Graun, Cherubini, and others.
