Mark Perry is known as a true theorist of London’s punk scene and as the founding editor of *SNIFFIN’GLUE*, the first-ever punk fanzine. ALTERNATIVETV is the group he formed to give voice to his ideas, a band that shook the very foundations of early punk. Rather than engaging in formulaic rebellion, they challenged the very structure of popular culture itself, and their presence is etched as a crucial milestone that foreshadowed the rise of post-punk. Having been among the first to express their saturation with conventional punk sounds and continuing to expand the horizons of expression, they released this landmark debut single in 1978. This work is an early masterpiece where impulsive energy and intellectual criticism spark, radiating a heretical brilliance that even foreshadows their later forays into avant-garde rock and prog. Transcending the confines of a mere punk band, the essence of their origins—roaming freely through musical side streets—is condensed here. Featuring two tracks that pierce the turning point of an era: "ACTIONTIMEVISION" (ATV), with its beat brimming with restlessness, and an alternate version of "HOWMUCHLONGER?", which blatantly demonstrated their break from punk formalism. It captures their raw creativity just before their collaborations with ROBERTWYATT and their shift toward experimental approaches.
