Is this the Javan of daydreams? Or is this the Nick Drake of the tropics? The second release from the Nordesti musician produced by Bruno Belli, who rose to popularity as a standard-bearer of lo-fi MPB, is Felippe Nunes Araújo! The simple and universal melodies reminiscent of nocturnes and lullabies, and the diverse rhythms of northeastern Brazil with a strong African flavor are blended with a dreamy, intimate, and ethereal sound. The ultimate lo-fi psychedelic folk masterpiece, like a treasure, is born! Felippe Nunes Araújo's songs are as rich and varied as the diverse landscapes in which they are set. Landscapes such as the hills of Pernambuco, the lagoons of Alagoas, and the coastline of Bahia are woven into his unpretentious, folkloric Brazilian songwriting. As part of a broad movement of musicians from northeastern Brazil, Felippi sees the process of making music as a quest for beauty itself. Produced in collaboration with Northeastern artists Bruno Belli, Bataata Boy, and Nylon Igor, Felippi's debut album is a new flowering of the creative explorations of this exceptionally talented community. The Northeast has an almost sacred importance in Brazil's collective cultural imagination. The region has witnessed the brutal history of Portuguese colonial rule and the African slave trade, while at the same time blending the diverse cultures, religions, and traditions of the people who called the region home. Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Hermeto Pascual, Javan, Luiz Gonzaga, and countless other masters of Brazilian music have emerged from this vast cultural melting pot. Born in Caruaru, Pernambuco, and raised in the city of Santa Cruz do Capibaribe, famous for its textile industry, Felippi succinctly describes his music as "Brazilian music born from the agresti* of Pernambuco. His exceptional compositions weave together regional rhythms, folk songs, and sophisticated harmonies. *Agresci = semi-arid area between the coastal tropical seasonal forest zone "Zona da Mata" in northeastern Brazil and the inland arid zone "Sertão", which is sometimes hit by major droughts.
