The Amsterdam Dudok Quartet's first Tchaikovsky! The Amsterdam Dudok Quartet is an intellectual quartet from Amsterdam, the Netherlands that "as a string quartet of the 21st century, we are always searching for the best way to explore the meaning of the music we play and to reflect the music of the past with new meaning for the modern audience. The ensemble takes its name from the renowned Dutch architect Willem Marinus Dudok (1884-1974), who was a great lover of music, and the Guardian praised their "supple, lively sound and careful sense of structure and detail. This fourth Rubicon album features Tchaikovsky's String Quartets. This first volume includes the first quartet with its beautiful andante cantabile slow movement, the second quartet, which Tchaikovsky himself describes as his masterpiece, though overshadowed by the first, and a new arrangement for string quartet by member cellist Darfit Faber of "Evgeny Onegin" and the much-loved "Lenin" from "Evgeny Onegin".
