Guild presents the world premiere recording of two magnificent, romantic masterpieces composed by Caryn Yuma (b. 1965), a composer from Iași, a city in the Moldavia region—an area located east of the Carpathian Mountains in northeastern Romania! Karin Yuma moved from her native Romania to the United Kingdom, where she has been active for over 20 years. Both the piano concerto “Symphonic Concerto,” composed in 2015, and her first symphony, “Symphony No. 1,” completed in 2018, incorporate a wealth of folk songs from her native Moldavia; In particular, the “Symphonic Concerto” possesses such a Romantic atmosphere—so much so that one might expect it to appear in Hyperion’s Romantic Piano Concertos series—and is a beautiful work brimming with “beautiful melodies.” Given the “Guild” label’s proven track record of bringing to light wonderful works by lesser-known composers such as Andrej, Brun, and Diethelm, we are very much looking forward to this world premiere recording of Karyn Yuma’s “Symphonic Concerto” and “Symphony No. 1.” Please be sure to check out these little-known masterpieces, which blend the folk melodies of the Moldavian region with Romanticism!
