Description:
In the footsteps of an 18th century contrabass virtuoso. The supreme art of contrabass played by a young Russian virtuoso! As a cavalry officer in the Hungarian army and a self-taught contrabass virtuoso, he traveled to Austria, Germany, Paris, London, and St. Petersburg, where he befriended the most famous musicians of the time, including Leopold Mozart, the Haydn brothers, and Vanhal. This program follows in the footsteps of Joseph Kempel (1735-88?) and his oversized instrument "Goliath," which was built for Kempel himself. Grigory Krotenko, a contemporary Russian virtuoso, recreates the footsteps of Kempfer, who is believed to have ended his life as a court musician at the Bolshoi Theater in St. Petersburg, with masterpieces by Hofmeister, Spörger and Vanhal. After graduating from the Moscow Conservatory in 2007, he won the first prize at the 3rd Sergei Koussevitsky International Double Bass Competition in 2009, and has since played with the Svetlanov Memorial Russian National Symphony Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra. In 2011, he was invited to the Orchestre Revolutionnelle et Romantique as guest concertmaster, and he is a promising virtuoso who is also demonstrating his talent in the field of ancient music. Two contrabass virtuosos from contemporary Russia and 18th century Europe, linked by centuries of history. Please enjoy the fascination of the low string instrument, the double bass, as a solo instrument! Tokyo M-Plus
