The diverse sonorities of classical clarinet, endpinless cello, and fortepiano The "Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano" is chamber music featuring three distinctly different instruments—wind, string, and keyboard—whose varied yet subdued sound, centered in the lower register, leaves a lasting impression. Here, three works written in the dense notation of the late Classical period are performed on instruments built to 19th-century specifications. The program includes works by Giraud and Volkmar, contemporaries of Beethoven, alongside a piece by Ries, Beethoven's pupil. Giraud's third movement contains a section reminiscent of the opening of Mozart's "Jupiter" Symphony. However, Giraud composed his work in 1805, a time when only the parts of the "Jupiter" had been published, suggesting this is an early homage. This period instrument ensemble, formed in 2004 by students of the Sibelius Academy, boasts a 20-year career. They deliver an exquisitely detailed performance. Recorded in August 2024 at the Uusi Paviljonki in Kauniainen, Helsinki metropolitan area, southern Finland. CD running time is approximately 63 minutes. Case is made of 10mm thick polystyrene (jewel case).The booklet (English, 8 pages) includes liner notes by the performer, Jantoinen. Manufactured in the EU, the disc is produced by Germany's Optimal Media, a major label.
