Description:
A vibrant orchestral performance featuring the bandoneon and percussion [Overview] ◆ Astor Piazzolla was an Argentine composer and master of the bandoneon. He revolutionized the genre by fusing traditional tango with elements of jazz, classical music, and modern harmony. His works transformed tango from a dance genre rooted in Buenos Aires popular culture into a sophisticated art form suitable for the concert hall. At the heart of this transformation were his bandoneon concertos. These concertos demonstrated the expressive potential of the instrument and blurred the boundaries between the traditions of popular and classical music. [Track Listing] ◆Composed of Piazzolla’s major works for orchestra. ◆Bandoneon Concerto “Aconcagua”: Composed in 1979. It was named after the Argentine mountain Aconcagua (approximately 7,000 meters—the highest peak outside Asia) posthumously. ●Three Tangos: A collection of works for bandoneon and orchestra. Expanding the traditional vocabulary of tango with orchestral color. ●Oblivion: One of Piazzolla’s most famous lyrical melodies, the beauty of which is explored here. 【Performers】 ◆Claudius Balan is a Polish bandoneon and accordionist active in a wide range of genres, from tango to contemporary music. His performance demonstrates high technical skill in both Piazzolla’s characteristic intense tonguing and his sobbing phrasing, and the accompanying orchestra responds with a sound befitting the works. 【Recording】 ◆Recorded on February 25, 2022, at the Wojciech Kilar Symphony Hall in Częstochowa, Silesia Province, southern Poland. The percussion sounds are vividly captured, with the timpani delivering tremendous power and the bandoneon well-balanced. 【Product Specifications】 ◆The case is made of 10mm-thick polystyrene (jewel case). The included booklet (English, 8 pages) features liner notes and other information. Manufactured in the EU, the disc is produced by Optimal Media of Germany, a company well-known for its work with major labels.
