Description:
A treasure trove of melodic beauty showcasing Pitzetti’s signature style [Overview] ◆From the opening track, “Three Songs for Cello and Piano,” exquisitely beautiful melodies demonstrate Pizzetti’s status as a masterful composer of melodies. ◆Pizzetti, who is part of the “1980s generation” alongside Respighi, Casella, and Gian Francesco Malipiero, advocates for a redefinition of Italian music by reconnecting it with the legacy of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Deeply influenced by early polyphony, Gregorian chant, and classical drama, he arrived at a unique musical style characterized by modal harmony, contrapuntal clarity, and profound lyricism. 【Track Listing】 ◆“Three Songs” for cello and piano was written shortly after the death of his first wife and completed in 1924. It seems as though a tribute to the deceased and a prayer for salvation flow at the very core of the music. The work is dedicated to Pizzetti’s daughter, a fact that may symbolize the warmth and passion of the piece. ◆ The Piano Trio in A Major appears to reflect the joy of meeting Irene, who would later become his second wife, as well as hope for a new life, the joy of love, and the bright Italian sunshine. ◆The album includes three works for violin and piano, all of which display an accessible beauty. 【Performers】 ◆Trio Hermes is a young Italian ensemble consisting of Ginevra Bassetti (violin), Francesca Giglio (cello), and Marianna Prusoni (piano). They are dedicated to introducing hidden masterpieces of modern Italian music, vividly bringing to life Pizzetti’s complex harmonic progressions and singing melodies with a contemporary sensibility. 【Recording】 ◆Recorded in February 2005 at the Sfias Recording Studio in Montesilvano, in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, central Italy. Both the individual instruments and the ensemble are captured with a rich, beautiful sound. 【Product Specifications】 ◆The case is made of 10mm-thick polystyrene (jewel case). The accompanying booklet (English, 12 pages) features commentary by Guido Barbieri, a musicologist who has taught music history and aesthetics for many years and works as a music critic and consultant. Manufactured in the EU, the disc is produced by Optimal Media of Germany, a company well-known for its work with major labels.
