Description:
Featuring Three Types of Fortepianos! [Overview] ◆Since Beethoven composed and performed using the fortepiano—the piano of his time—it is essential to use period instruments and perform historically informed performances to convincingly capture the works’ original character. ◆Here, specialists in historical keyboard performance play instruments from Beethoven’s era, allowing listeners to experience the sound of the piano that Beethoven himself likely envisioned. 【Program】 ◆Seven piano sonatas, from No. 1 to No. 7. The complex timbre of the fortepiano makes it easy to discern the emergence of Beethoven’s characteristic powerful style. ◆The collection of short pieces includes Écossaises, WoO 83; Allegretto in A minor, WoO 53; Two Rondos, Op. 51; Variations on a Theme in D major, Op. 76; Bagatelle in B-flat major, WoO 60; Andante Favori, WoO 57; and Polonaise in C major, Op. 89. As with the sonatas, the clatter and the way the timbre changes depending on the frequency range add a theatrical element of fun. The Turkish military-style pedal in the Écossaises is also interesting. 【Performer】 ◆Performer Pierini is a specialist in historical keyboard performance and has a proven track record of success in fortepiano performances of works by Gervais, François Couperin, Clementi, and Cramer. ◆The instruments used are period instruments: the Ecossais (WoO 83) and Variations, Op. 76, are by Matthias Müller (1822); the Polonaise, Op. 89, is by Konrad Graf (1830); and the others are by Johann Haselmann (late 18th to early 19th century). 【Recording】 ◆The miniatures were recorded in November 2023, and the sonatas were recorded between January and July 2024. All recordings took place at the Annibaldeschi Palace in Monte Compatri, Rome Province, Lazio Region, central Italy. The venue is renowned for its excellent acoustics. 【Product Specifications】 ◆Total running time is approximately 203 minutes. The case is made of 24mm-thick polystyrene (multi-disc case). The included booklet (English, 12 pages) features commentary by the performer, Pierini. Manufactured in the EU; the disc is produced by Optimal Media (Germany), a company well-known for its work with major labels.
