A major project exploring the complete piano works of Cui, a key figure of the Russian Five 【Overview】 ◆ It was Cui who continuously promoted the existence of the "Russian Five"—Borodin (1833-1887), Cui (1835-1918), Balakirev (1837-1910), Mussorgsky (1839-1881), Cui was the one who continually promoted the existence of the "Russian Five"—composed of Borodin (1833-1887), Cui (1835-1918), Balakirev (1837-1910), Mussorgsky (1839-1881), and Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908)—to Western Europe through his writing, making them famous within a short period. However, his own works were rarely performed, and CD releases were limited. ◆This time, the Piano Classics label is undertaking a project to systematically record Cui's piano works, performed by Italian pianist Marco Lapetti. 【Works】 ◆Volume 1 is a 2-CD set: CD1 features works from 1877 to 1883, while CD2 contains pieces from 1886 to 1888. It comprises collections of short pieces and suites, offering many enjoyable programmatic works. 【Performance】 ◆Performed by Marco Lapetti, a highly accomplished explorer of Russian music.Having previously recorded collections of piano works by Russian composers such as Borodin, Lyadov, and Lyapunov to high acclaim, he is ideally suited to express Cui's delicate lyricism and salon-style elegance with outstanding skill. Recording: Recorded in February 2024 and March 2025 at Studio Conti in Florence using a 1987 Steinway D-274. Specifications: ◆The packaging is digipack style, and the insert booklet (English, 10 pages) includes commentary by pianist, composer, and musicologist Kirill Monorossi. Monorossi studied at the Moscow Conservatory, the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and currently resides in Australia. The CD is manufactured in the EU, and the disc is produced by Optimal Media, a major label in Germany.
