Description:
John Kennedy, owner of the legendary Big Apple Records in Croydon, the birthplace of dubstep, and Arthur Smith, who has released a series of masterpieces under the name Grain and Artwork, have teamed up as friends to produce this 1995 This is a reissue of a UK minimal techno treasure!
The original version is rarely seen, and is usually priced at over 8,000 yen on some websites.
We especially recommend the A-side "Basemental", which was used for many years by Laurant Garnier, the legend who brought techno to France, and was also featured on his famous DJ Mix CD "Laboratoire Mix".A simple yet powerful masterpiece with tribal percussion and acid bass held at an austere tension, with spacy pads that transform the atmosphere!
The B1 "Single Cell" is reminiscent of Steve Bicknell's "Cosmic" albums of the same era (Arthur was a regular at Bicknell's Lost parties), with its hypnotic processing and grooves that create a psychedelic atmosphere, and the "Strange Gimmick Sound" is also similar to Freetekno's "Single Cell". The B2 "High Riser" is a dangerous hard stomper with a strangely gimmicky sound that induces a sense of trip, similar to Freetekno's original version.
This is another excellent track that, when listened to again, anticipates the vibes of deep techno and deserves to be re-evaluated!
