The new album *Kindred Spirits* by the sister duo Lea & Esther Billingher is a recital album that brings together three composers—Amanda Renthen-Meier, Grieg, and Clara Schumann—who shared a deep connection, both musically and personally. The album centers on the 19th-century Swedish violinist and composer Renthen-Myer. In addition to Grieg and Clara Schumann, she formed close friendships with Brahms, Joachim, Anton Rubinstein, and Ethel Smyth; these musicians gathered at the music salons and concerts she held throughout Europe alongside her husband, Julius Renthen. As the title suggests, this album features the music of “kindred spirits,” bringing these personal and artistic connections to life through the sounds of the violin and piano. Violinist Lea Billingher, who made her solo debut at the Berlin Philharmonie at the age of 14 and launched her international career, has performed at international music festivals around the world, including the Salzburg Festival, MDR MusikSommer (MDR Music Summer), and the Davos International Music Festival. In 2008, she won first prize at the International Brahms Competition. Pianist Esther Billingher studied under Karl-Heinz Kemmerling, a renowned German teacher who has trained numerous world-class pianists. She won first prize at the 6th Johann Sebastian Bach International Competition, drawing widespread attention to her talent. As a duo, they won first prize consecutively at two prestigious competitions in 2011—the Pinerolo International Chamber Music Competition and the “Vittorio Gui” International Chamber Music Competition in Florence—and have since been invited to music festivals and concert series around the world.
