A deluxe edition of her 1972 album, which had been in preparation before her death, is now available! In 1972, Melanie and her producer/husband, Peter Shekelik, released their most ambitious album to date, "The Souls of Melanie Safka". Melanie and her producer and husband, Peter Shekelik, began work on what would become their most ambitious album to date. It was originally intended to be the first two-disc album by a female rock artist, as well as the first worldwide release on NEIGHBORHOD RECRODS, the label she had founded in 1971. However, "Brand New Key" was a big hit earlier that year, and the album was re-worked and 10 songs were selected for release as a 1LP album.However, Melanie herself has said from the beginning that this album was not in its true form. Now it has been reissued in its entirety. The melancholic impression of the album remains, with her voice sung in a relaxed manner, and the many guest musicians, including percussionists and flutists, adding color to the album.
