Finnissy studied at the Royal Academy of Music, then studied in Italy, and as of 2017 teaches at several music colleges in the UK. Under the influence of the New Viennese School of Music with its strict expressionist atonal music, his own poetics spread out in the manner of academic contemporary music, such as the sudden taped playing of birdcalls (String Quartet No. 3) in the midst of harsh expressions, including the extensive use of clusters. This album includes two piano pieces recorded for the first time in the world. The album includes a piece that is intense, superb, and extremely complex, as only Finnissy, who has been creating contemporary superb piano pieces, can do, and a piece that is serene and full of tension.
