This intimate album, featuring the minimal ensemble of recorder, harp, and lute, is themed around this technique, which heightens technical virtuosity without compromising the work’s resonance. In addition to diminutions composed during that era, listeners can also hear diminutions arranged by the recorder player Münzler. The title “Vestiva” is taken from the famous Palestrina piece “Vestivaicolli” included on this album. This piece features lyrics that convey the idea that “fields and hills are adorned with flowers, heralding the arrival of spring,” an image that resonates with the technique of diminution, which enriches the music with various ornamentations.
