The BBC Young Musician of the Year award has honored such star artists as Natalie Klein, Freddie Kemp, Nicola Benedetti, and Peter Moore. The debut recording by Lara Melda, a pianist who won the award at the age of 16 in 2010 when the name was changed to BBC Young Musician, is now available from Champs Hill Records, a British label that discovers and introduces many promising young artists. Lara Melda Omeroglu was born in London in 1993 to parents of Turkish descent, and made her concerto debut at the age of eight, followed by her concerto debut at twelve, and in 2009 she reached the finals of the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Weimar, Germany. In the 2010 BBC Young Musicians finals, she performed Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 2 with Vasily Petrenko & the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and made her talent known to the world.She continued her studies at the Royal College of Music, graduating cum laude in 2016, and has continued to build a successful career with her Wigmore Hall debut in 2017 and BBC Proms & Royal Albert Hall debut in 2018. Her high-profile debut recording, a Chopin album of three volumes of nocturnes and all four ballades, was praised by 365Bristol reviewers as "without a doubt one of the finest performances I have ever heard," and her sold-out performance of the complete ballades at the Wigmore Hall Lara Mehlda's graceful interpretation of Chopin has been especially praised by critics such as Tokyo M-Plus
