Description:
Nannino (1544-1607) was one of the major Italian composers of the late Renaissance. He studied under Palestrina at St. Luigi de' Francesi in Rome and became rector of the cathedral in 1577 after Palestrina's retirement. Thereafter, he gained fame as a music teacher while also directing a choir. Most of his works are madrigales and religious music, which are in the style of his teacher Palestrina, but have a variety of expressions. Although Nannino has never been published except for a few well-known works, most of his manuscripts have survived and are expected to be studied further in the future.
