Description:
The composer Jensen (1837–1879) was born in Germany and is said to have taught himself music. It was not until he turned 15 that he finally began formal studies in Berlin, where he demonstrated his talent under the guidance of Franz Liszt and Nils Geese. Although he was regarded as Schumann’s successor at the time, his style was considered too delicate and was dismissed as mere “salon music”; as a result, he is now largely overlooked. The TOCCATA label has released a collection of his works in an effort to revive his music from obscurity. The piano performance is by Erling R. Eriksen. Recorded in 2013. (C)RS
