This is a collection of art songs by the Norwegian composer Arnes. His previously released collection of piano works (TOCC0067) garnered attention for its unique style, which weaves melodies and rhythms from Norwegian folk music into lyrical compositions; however, these art songs are even more delicate and expressive, reflecting his innermost feelings. It is surprising that, despite being such charming pieces, these songs—with the exception of a few—have hardly ever been performed. Eriksen, who performs on piano, delivered a magnificent performance on the aforementioned piano collection as well, but here he plays with even greater empathy, delving deeper into the essence of the music. This album commemorates the 140th anniversary of Arnes’s birth and the 80th anniversary of his death.
