Strauss by Tennstedt in 1986! First appearance! The powerful Seven Veil Dances with Jesse Norman at the peak of his career! Archival Tennstedt (1926-1998) on the LPO label! This is a live concert performance of May 4, 1986, all R. Strauss, during the period when he was sick and playing with a tension that was increasingly spectacular and could silence anyone. None of the performances with Jesse Norman (1945-2019) are firsts. Norman recorded this at the height of her super-full life, about the same time as her first visit to Japan (1985). The overwhelming power of this recording is something only she could have achieved. In the excerpts from "Salome," I was surprised at the tremendous explosion of the orchestra in the "Dance of the Seven Veils. Tennstedt's orchestra sounded enthusiastic even when she sang, and Norman's power-filled singing was brought to life many times more powerfully with the help of the orchestra.It is a magnificent and passionate performance that is out of this world! ! R. Strauss' "The Townsman Aristocrat" is not his first appearance, but it is a performance that brings out the full range of his liturgical elegance while also adding a light touch and humor, a performance that shows the master's reserve and brings out a different side from the performance he gave with Norman. Tennstedt first appeared with the LPO in 1977, and was appointed chief conductor and music director in 1983, a position he held until his death in 1998. His energy, musicality, emotional music, and unparalleled humility were deeply loved by the audience, as can be strongly felt from this live performance.
