Description:

Penderecki, one of the oldest composers alive and well, performs his masterpiece "Victims of Hiroshima" with the LPO! Krzysztof Penderecki, born in 1933, is a master composer at the age of 86 (born in November). This is a rare recording of him conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra in three of his own compositions. Penderecki made an impact on the world music scene with his 1960 work "Lament for the Victims of Hiroshima". The brilliant sound of the strings, with their tone clusters that blacken the staff, is still considered a genius invention that cannot be surpassed today. Not only that, but the piece is also based on the tragedy of Hiroshima, making it a rare and well-known piece of contemporary music. It is a great value to be able to listen to the latest recording under the composer's direction. Penderecki's style changed drastically in 1976 when he wrote a violin concerto for Isaac Stern, which became a romantic piece of music. Since then, Penderecki has been involved in religious and film music, and is still active today. The recent works also include a horn concerto written in 2008 for the virtuoso Radovan Vlatkovich, and the "Adagio for Strings," the third movement of the 1995 Symphony No. 3, which was adapted for string orchestra in 2013. The horn concerto is titled "Winter Journey," but it has nothing to do with Schubert's famous song cycle, and was composed while reminiscing about his frequent trips to China and South America during the winter just before the composition, in a beautiful natural setting in a Polish villa. Although there are echoes of hunting horns, the music as a whole is very dark, which is typical of Penderecki. King International
