Vladimir Jurowski has served as Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra since 2007. This two-disc album marks Yurovsky’s “29th” release on the LPO label and is his first recording of a Richard Strauss work with the orchestra. [CD 1] features the evocative “Alpine Symphony,” which unfolds into a series of grand scenes. The London Philharmonic’s exhilarating sound—meticulously controlled down to the finest detail—is captivating, as Yurovsky brings out the very best in his musicians. [CD 2] features excerpts from the opera *The Woman Without a Shadow*. Here, Yurovsky performs not the composer’s own “Symphonic Fantasy,” but orchestral highlights drawn from the complete opera. Yurovsky conducted the complete *The Woman Without a Shadow* at the Metropolitan Opera in 2013 and is said to have a deep affinity for the work; here, too, he meticulously weaves the intricate score into sound. Furthermore, in “The Dance of the Seven Veils,” performed at the London Philharmonic’s 2013 opening concert, he presents a sensual scene through his delicate interpretation. Naxos Japan
