Exactly six years after his last release, Thundercat drops his fifth studio album, 'Distracted', via Brainfeeder. This album features unreleased collaborations with his dear friend Mac Miller, who sadly passed away in 2018, alongside an impressive roster of artists spanning eras and genres: A$AP Rocky, Lil Yachty, Tame Impala, Willow, and Channel Torres. Central to the album's creation was a close collaboration with major producer Greg Kurstin, who became a new creative partner for Thundercat. Working with Kurstin, known for his collaborations with iconic artists like Adele, Paul McCartney, Sia, Beyoncé, and Beck, resulted in an album that is more refined than ever before, yet retains Thundercat's signature freedom and playfulness. Furthermore, Brainfeeder founder and close friend Flying Lotus, Kenneth Bloom (aka Kenny Beats), who caused a stir last year with his work on Guess's latest album, and The Lemon Twiggs, featuring the genius D'Alario brothers, also participated in the production. While bringing together a diverse range of talent, the work as a whole clearly reflects "Thundercat today." This album features numerous artists who share Thundercat's sensibility and creative orientation. Willow layers her floating vocals on "ThunderWave," while Channel Torres creates a lighthearted groove on "This Thing We Call Love." A$AP Rocky, who recently made headlines with his performance on Saturday Night Live, participates in the epic "Funny Friends," and a collaboration with Tame Impala, "No More Lies," is also included. The album artwork is by Grammy-nominated photographer Neil Kragh, known for his work with Lana Del Rey and Tame Impala. It's okay to be confused. It's okay to be tired.Even in a distracted state, beauty can emerge. In this era where opinions and statements are constantly demanded, Thundercat offers a quieter, yet more essential message.
