The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will celebrate Bruckner's bicentennial on September 4, 2024, with nine conductors (Ivan Fischer, Myung-Whun Chung, Klaus Makela, Christian Thielemann, Andrew Manze, Jaap van Zweden, Vladimir Jurowski, Simone Young, and Riccardo Chailly) to celebrate a year and a half of the Bruckner Cycle. This boxed set celebrates the 200th anniversary of Bruckner's birth in advance of the complete Bruckner concert. It will be a rare set of brilliant and masterful performances since the 1970s by an orchestra that has cultivated a tradition of Bruckner performance over the long years. This time, it includes a number of first-ever recordings from the Netherlands Broadcasting Corporation (NOS), the Association of General Radio Operators (AVRO), and Radio Nederland (RNW), making it a set not to be missed.The first five symphonies are Symphony No. 1 / Bernard Haitink (recorded: February 10, 1972), Symphony No. 2 / Riccardo Chailly (recorded: April 29, 1990), Symphony No. 4 / Klaus Tennstedt (recorded: October 28, 1982), Symphony No. 5, Symphony No. 7 / Bernard Haitink (recorded: April 2, 2006), Symphony No. 9 / Riccardo Chailly (recorded: June 6, 1996).
