This box contains all recordings by Leif Ove Ansnes for Virgin & EMI Classics. You will find the recurring and original themes that are typical of Ansnes, as well as strong technique and meticulous interpretation. Ansnes was born in Karmøy, Norway, in 1970, and studied at the Bergen Conservatory with Izy Hlinka of the Czech Republic, and also received various advice from Jacques de Teijege of Belgium, who has greatly influenced Ansnes' playing style and philosophy. Ansnes cites Dinu Lipatti, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Sviatoslav Richter, and Geza Anda as pianists who have inspired him. In addition to the "Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav," Norway's most prestigious honor, in 2007 he received the "Peer Gynt Award," given to individuals who have made significant achievements in politics, sports, and culture. He has also received the Royal Philharmonic Society's Performer of the Year Award and the Gilmour Artist Award. He has been a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. He currently lives in Copenhagen and Bergen, but also spends much of his time in a mountain villa in the Hardanger region of western Norway; since 2016 he has organized the Rosendal Chamber Music Festival, which takes place in the summer in Rosendal, Norway. Ansnes is one of the best pianists of his day, known for his outstanding musicianship and sensitive touch, and his exceptional technical sense has always served him well in his interpretations. He was Norway's first home-schooled superstar pianist and pioneer.
