As the 20th anniversary release of the vocal ensemble Édes, founded in 2009, we present the complete collection of Poulenc's unaccompanied choral works, performed and recorded by the ensemble over the years. Poulenc deeply loved the human voice and believed in the primacy of words. For his secular choral works, he drew inspiration from French poetry; for his sacred works, primarily from Latin liturgical texts. His unaccompanied choral pieces reveal a fragile yet profoundly human inner world, crafted purely from the material of the voice itself. The first choral work Poulenc wrote was "Chanson de l'ivrogne" (Song of the Drunkard) at age 23. "Hymn to Saint Anthony of Padua" (1957) was his final unaccompanied choral work. From the 1950s onward, he turned toward larger-scale, religious choral works, producing a succession of pieces with orchestra and soloists, including *Stabat Mater* (1950), *Gloria* (1959), and *Septet for Voices and Orchestra* (1961).For Poulenc, there was no divide between secular and religious works; these choral pieces can be viewed as "choral works" born from the same inspiration. They are imbued with the backdrop of significant events in life and the historical moments of the 20th century. APARTE
