Masreev, the winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini! The CD of Dmitry Masreev, winner of the 2015 Tchaikovsky Competition, is now available on the Aparte label. Born in 1988 in Ulan-Ude, Russia, Masreev began playing the piano at the age of 7. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 2011. he first visited Japan in August 2015 and is a remarkable presence. in 2025, he will perform at the La Folle Journée music festival. The program features works that Masreev has long cherished. Liszt's "Dance of Death" is a memorable work that always gave him energy when he heard it when he won the International Tchaikovsky Competition. The Hungarian Rhapsody was arranged for piano and orchestra by his teacher, Petukhov, and is, needless to say, an important part of his life. The Variations on a Theme by Paganini is one of the pieces he always mentions when asked what his favorite piece is, and he has heard it hundreds of times since he was a child, performed by many different performers. This time, he took on the challenge of playing it.This is a virtuosity that is truly magical in its concentration and traction, and each note shines like a dazzling pearl, and it is breathtaking. Both Liszt and Rachmaninoff have in common that the melody of the Gregorian chant "Dies Irae" is heard. The influence of this medieval melody on great composers and the unparalleled power of works that include this chant are still surprisingly strong today. The album closes with the Adagio from Marcello's Oboe Concerto, which Bach arranged for keyboard. The album closes with a clean tone and a sublime, song-filled atmosphere. APARTE
