Salieri's opera, forgotten for more than 200 years, has been Rousset & Les Talents Lilique have revived it at its best! The long-awaited latest release in the Salieri project by Ruse & Le Taran Lilik is "Kublai, the Great King of the Tatars (Khan)". Kublai means Kublai, and Khan means Khan, so the piece is supposed to be set in Mongolia, but it is actually a criticism of Peter the Great and a satire on his court. The work was subject to censorship due to the political situation at the time, and its premiere was prohibited. The original version has been revived in the best performance by Salieri's ardent advocate, Les Talents Lilique, and his conductor Christophe Rousset! The libretto for Salieri's "The Great Tatar (Can), Cubrai" (1788) was written by Giovanni Battista Casti, Da Ponte's rival. The "Trophoni's Grotto," an opera by Salieri that caused a sensation at the time, was based on Casti's libretto. After another collaboration, Salieri decided to make Casti librettist.It would have been unthinkable that none of their joint works would ever be performed on stage again. When the script for this work was actually finished, Salieri was so preoccupied with his "Talar" with Beaumarchais that he even offended Casti. The play, in which court officials conspire, a son is so stupid that a neighboring princess refuses to marry him, and to top it off, a couple of Italian adventurers meddle with the traditions of the country, is disguised as being set in Mongolia but is actually about the royal courts of Europe, especially those of the Russian tsars. court. In the true spirit of the Enlightenment in Europe, the central question raised by the authors was how those in power would deal with their responsibilities to the land. However, because Russia was an ally of Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II, the premiere of the work, which was completed after the outbreak of the Austro-Turkish War in 1787, was canceled and never performed. As a result, one of the most unusual operas of the 18th century, a biting satire with commedia dell'arte comedy, was forgotten for 200 years. (1/2) APART
