Description:

Flute world madness! Eugène Walchier (1793-1866) was a French flutist and composer. He studied flute with Théroux and composition with Reicha, but his mastery of the flute is said to have gradually intimidated him. After his composition teacher, Reicha, introduced him to the flute arrangement of popular opera arias, which was a success, and he went on to collaborate with the famous pianists Kalkbrenner and Thalberg on a series of flamboyant works for flute and piano. At the same time, he also became friends with Onslow and dabbled in classical forms such as quartets and quintets. This album features a collection of pure music works ranging from quintets to duets. Many are world premiere recordings, and the fact that they are performed on period instruments is also valuable. The star of the show is Alexis Cosenko, the leading French period flutist. He plays four flutes, ranging from a circa 1830 six-key one to an 1858 cylindrical Böhm silver flute. All of them are from the same period as the work, so you can enjoy the echoes of a bygone era. The orchestra is also joined by Zepek on violin, Cowan on cello, and other big names. Although Walchier was a contemporary of Berlioz and Chopin, his style is refreshingly classical. While he displays his skill on the flute in a spectacular manner, he also incorporates folk tunes and humor to create a positive world. King International
