Description:
Beautiful and dramatic double chorus! Here comes the complete version of the Italian opera "Married Love" by Meyer, based on the story of Fidelio by Donizetti's teacher Meyer. Meyer was born in Germany in 1763 and began his studies in Italy in 1787, where he served as the lifetime church music director of Bergamo Cathedral. He is known for introducing Beethoven's works and for his mastery of bel canto, and for teaching Donizetti in Bergamo. He has about 70 operas to his credit. The subject of Maile's "Married Love" is Jean Nicolas Bouyi's "Leonor, or Married Love," famous for being the basis for Beethoven's only opera, "Fidelio. The story is about the brave wife Zeliska, who disguises herself as a man and rides to rescue her unjustly detained husband Amorveno by assuming the name Malvino to be hired as a prison guard. 1805 saw its premiere in Padua with great success, and it was revived many times throughout Europe. The orchestration inherited from Mozart and Haydn is skillfully combined with the Italian vocal tradition to create a charming work. All of the solo arias, as well as the overture by the characters, are heartbreaking. In the recitative, not only the harpsichord but also the cello and contrabass play the bass continuo, making the story and the music all the more fascinating. Maile, himself an avowed Bel Canto expert, is in fact an essential part of the development of 19th-century opera. This recording of the complete version by Opera Fuoco, led by David Stern, is a most welcome addition. David Stern & Opera Fuoco... In 2003, American conductor David Stern founded a Paris-based opera company specializing in operatic works from the mid-18th century to the present. The company actively recruits young talent through auditions and presents ambitious projects worldwide, from master classes and recitals to large-scale staged operas. The company also has its own orchestra, the Opera Fuoco Orchestra, which can freely change its composition according to the repertoire. King International
