Orchestra Mambo International

Description:

Sure to Sell Out! The long-awaited debut album from one of the UK’s leading mambo and old-school salsa bands! Formed in 2022 by J Ruby and Johnny Enright (Grupo X)—a trombonist, bandleader, and composer—Orchestra Mambo International is a UK-based mambo, salsa, and Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble. Since its formation, this 13-piece band has been performing energetically across the UK—including at the Glastonbury Festival—and has been frequently featured on international radio stations. The band features a multinational, cross-generational lineup of musicians from Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, Spain, and the UK, drawing inspiration from traditional Latin music styles of New York and Cuba, including those of Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, and the Fania All-Stars. At the same time, their music—infused with Ruby’s DJ-inspired perspective and a fresh energy unique to the UK—has garnered strong support not only from Latin music fans but also from the DJ community, and every single they’ve released to date has sold out. Their debut album, *¡Apúntalo!*, features eight original tracks by Enlight, with contributions from veteran Venezuelan singer Carlos “Pachanga” Peña and timbales player Jimmy Le Muslier. Additionally, saxophonist Chip Wickham—a familiar face on releases from *Gondwana Records*— saxophonist Chip Wickham, a regular on *Gondwana Records* releases, contributes to “Flauta Pa’Ti,” while “Rumba, Ron Y Rico Son” features Cuban singer Claricel Millares and Cuban-born, New York-based violinist Irvin Jeres. Spanning styles such as mambo, salsa dura, pachanga, Cuban son montuno, Puerto Rican bomba, and Latin jazz, this album fuses the traditional spirit of the Afro-Caribbean dance floor with original compositions, rich arrangements, and the energy of a big band.
