The latest volume in the "Nyeres Live" series, releasing rare recordings of legendary Hungarian pianist Irvin Nyeres (1903-1987) with high-quality remastering.
The main focus of Volume 4 is the live recording of a recital held in Novato, California, in July 1973. Previously, poor-quality CD-R copies circulated in the collector's market. For this release, three sources were compared and verified, including open-reel tapes owned by Nyeres-Hajdi's close friend, Ricardo Hernandez. Referencing materials from the Takasaki College of Art and Culture (TACC) archives, the best existing masters were combined and remastered. The vast-scale performances characteristic of Nyeres-Hárgyi's later years, with tempos slowed to the absolute limit, are revived with unprecedented clarity.
(※Regarding the missing section during tape changes in the "Wanderer" Fantasy, no supplementary audio source exists; therefore, it has been included as-is for documentation purposes without restoration.) Furthermore, as bonus tracks filling the gaps in the main program, seven Ampico piano roll recordings made between 1921 and 1924 are included. These recordings capture Nylénhajs in his twenties, at the peak of his fame as a world-renowned "child prodigy," before he disappeared into the slums. While past LP and CD releases featured only a few selections like "Mazeppa," this compilation offers a broader range of pieces, providing an overview of the origins of his formidable technique and romantic interpretations.
The booklet includes liner notes in Japanese and English by Kevin Bazana, author of the Nylénházi biography "The Lost Genius," Peter Phillips who provided the Ampico rolls, and producer notes by label producer Tomoyuki Sawato.
