Description:
The complete symphonic works of Shostakovich, one of the greatest Soviet composers of the 20th century, has been a long-running hit since its release at a good price! Barshai (August 28, 1924-; born in Russia, lives in Switzerland) is a musician with whom I have a close relationship, having studied under Shostakovich, conducted the premiere of his Symphony No. 14, and arranged his String Quartet No. 8 as a "chamber symphony. In 1991, he conducted a temporary orchestra composed of young German musicians and members of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. In April 1993, he returned to Russia to conduct Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis" with the Russian National SO and Mahler's Symphony No. 9 with the Moscow Radio SO. Here, Barshai has recorded the complete symphonies since the 1990s, when he was in the midst of his most productive period of musical activity. The orchestra is the Cologne Radio SO [WDR Symphony Orchestra].The "super orchestra" of the period when Bertini was deeply involved with the orchestra, the rich functionality, range of expression, skillful nuance, depth of sound, and delicate musical expression can be felt throughout all the pieces. This 11-CD box set, which Barshai invested his own money to complete, is an album that should be listened to with great care.
