Piano music that captivates with approachable material and intricate technique Italian-born composer Castelnuovo-Tedesco is renowned for works like his guitar pieces for Segovia, his violin concerto for Heifetz, and his cello concerto for Piatigorsky. However, being a pianist himself, he also devoted considerable effort to composing piano pieces during his Italian period. This album features performances by the young Italian pianist Adriano Murja. A selection of program music written between 1910 and 1936. While assimilating Debussy's impressionism, Pizzetti's rigorous counterpoint, and neoclassicism, he created music with a unique, refined vocabulary based on long flowing melodies, varied rhythms, and elegant counterpoint. The opening piece, "Piedigrotta 1924," is a rhapsody capturing impressions from his 1924 honeymoon in Naples, vividly depicting the city's festivals and nightlife through a rich tapestry of sound. Each subsequent piece employs familiar melodies while showcasing intricate technical craftsmanship. Adriano Murja is pursuing a doctoral degree at the Conservatorio di Musica di Rovigo, researching the piano music of Castelnuovo-Tedesco, making him a valuable expert on the composer. In December 2023 and March 2024, he recorded at the Studio Musicale Felix in Prato, near Florence, in the central Italian region of Tuscany. - Benelli Moser Studio in Prato, near Florence, Tuscany, central Italy. The CD running time is approximately 65 minutes. The packaging is a digipak format. The insert booklet (English, 16 pages) includes notes on each work by musicologist Federico Folizzo. Manufactured in the EU, the disc is produced by Germany's Optimal Media, a manufacturer familiar to major labels.
