Included are piano arrangements of the popular "The Christmas Tree" and the Christmas song "Christ is Born", as well as piano arrangements of two orchestral pieces from the oratorio "Christ". The "Christmas Tree" consists of 12 songs, the first 8 of which are Christmas-related, while the last 4 are reminiscences and descriptions of Liszt and Caroline, which can be heard as the main part of the album. The booklet (English, 16 pages) includes a detailed and careful commentary by Mark Weiner, who performs the music. Liszt's Late Years The Suite "Christmas Tree" is a work from Liszt's later years. In Liszt's case, his last years did not mean retirement, but rather a busy 16-year period from 1870 until his death in 1886 at the age of 74, during which time he traveled frequently between Rome, Weimar, and Budapest. In addition, he traveled more than 6,000 kilometers a year in the early years of the railroad and horse-drawn carriages, which is astonishing. The first draft of "The Christmas Tree" was completed the following year, but the second and third drafts were revised repeatedly until the fourth draft was finally completed in 1876.
