Thalberg is known as the only pianist who frightened Franz Liszt. While it is a representative work of the late Romantic period, it is also a work that has finally been recognized by many people in recent years. It is a collection of arrangements for piano of operas and songs, and it is no exaggeration to say that he transferred the ideal of vocal expression to the keyboard with his wonderful contrast and balance between the pure texture of sound and superb technique. Alessandro Comellato's performances have been recorded on the Brilliant Classics label, and all have been highly acclaimed. This performance uses an 1843 Erard piano.
