Even in the "Anacreon Code," a recitation of ancient Greek poetry, lilas of various sizes were used as props to enliven the occasion and produce sound. Combining Decorative Appearance and Functionality in Performance The rilla guitar was developed by French instrument maker Pierre-Charles Maréchal in 1780. Originally named the "Anacreon Lira," this instrument combined the features of both the Lira and the guitar, combining the external beauty of the Lira with the playing functionality of the guitar. From the Aristocracy to the Emerging Middle Class The French Revolution that began in 1789 led to the decline of the aristocracy, which was subject to looting and massacres, but the middle class that emerged as a result of the transfer of wealth became the leaders of salons. The guitar became popular not only as a musical instrument but also as a decorative object (it was even used in the container design of the whisky "Hibiki" in recent years). Exclusive music performance The Lira Guitar has been in use for only a short period of time, so there are only a few pieces dedicated to the instrument, but in this album, pieces written for the instrument by French composers have been selected and are performed with great elegance by the experienced Domenico Raffacciano.
