The Court of the Po River Valley In the first decades of the 17th century, music flourished at the courts of Cremona, Parma, Bologna, Venice, Ferrara, Brescia, Milan, and Mantova, all located along the Po River, a great river with a basin area of over 70,000 square kilometers, where there was a remarkable development not only in vocal music but also in instrumental music. The fame of this music spread abroad, and the composers of the works on this CD also worked abroad, in Vienna, Warsaw, Prague, and Dusseldorf, spreading the essence of Italian music.
