Known as the author of the Inventions that inspired Bach, Bomporti was a clergyman who studied theology and music. Composing was a sideline, but during the 47 years he worked as a clergyman, he published 12 collections of works and presented them to influential people in various countries. While working at Trento Cathedral in northern Italy, Bompoli was well known as he was awarded the title of "Gentleman of the Court" by King Karl VI in 1727. The concertante virtuosity of the "Sonata for Two Violins and Passing Bass," which appears here, is a good example of the style of Bomporti, who is said to have studied under Corelli. This is the fourth Bomporti album to be performed by Labirinti Armonici.
