Francesco Bomporti spent most of his life in his hometown of Trento, Northern Italy. Studied in Rome and influenced by Arcangelo Corelli, Bonporti's fame spread throughout Europe as he incorporated dramatic elements into his mimetic counterpoint. Later, J.S. Bach arranged some of his violin sonatas for harpsichord. Bomporti's compositional style is clearly modeled on Corelli's, with its technical sophistication, virtuoso touch, imaginative harmony, and lively parts. The recorded Op. 4, as a "church sonata," consists almost entirely of four movements. The first violin is the main player, and the other two instruments are usually in charge of accompaniment. The fast movements demand great skill from the players, while the slow movements are delicate, pleasant, and slightly melancholy. The Italian Labilinti Armonici is a group of two violins, a cello, and a harpsichord/organ that specializes in rare baroque music. Brilliant Classics has already released Bonporti's Sonatas Op.1 and Op.2.
