Description:
A unique concept performance of the songbook that healed the female governor MargueriteAn album of selections from the personal songbook of Marguerite Dortlisch (Margaret of Austria) [1480-1530], performed by an ensemble of countertenors and various sizes of recorders. The countertenors sing the first, third, fifth, eighth, twelfth, thirteenth, fifteenth, nineteenth, twenty-first, and twenty-second songs with recorder ensemble, while the other twelve songs are performed with recorder ensemble only. Marguerite, who managed to survive the political turmoil of her time and became the female governor of the 17 provinces of the Netherlands at the age of 26 after deciding to mourn for the rest of her life, was famous for her outstanding intelligence and good government for about 23 years until her death at the age of 50. She was well versed in vocal and instrumental music, painting, rhetoric, French, and Spanish, and her library, one of the largest in Europe at the beginning of the 16th century, included a manuscript of a book of songs that she had ordered herself. The contents are a collection of 55 chansons and motets by various composers of the time, and the lavish binding, decorated with high-quality miniature paintings, also demonstrates Marguerite's enthusiasm. Marguerite was a patron of the arts, philosophy, and theology, but she also experienced difficult events, such as the death of her husband twice and the loneliness of her childhood due to political intrigue. ＜The Seldom Sene Recorder Quintet is a recorder ensemble of the 21st century that focuses on old and new music, promotes contemporary composers, and constantly pushes the boundaries of the recorder's possibilities. music of 16th century England, Spain, and Flanders, as well as well-known and highly acclaimed programs and recordings of baroque and contemporary repertoire. As a teacher and educator, he gives master classes and workshops in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Spain.
