Ensemble Il Narvalo
Description:
A collection of instrumental works by Cremona composers of Monteverdi's time Niccolò Corradini was born in Cremona 18 years after Monteverdi and is thought to have spent most of his life based in the city. He wrote not only madrigals and motets, but also instrumental works in the then state-of-the-art score format, and this album features a collection of instrumental works with titles, "Canzons and Sonatas," published in Venice in 1624. The titles are named after the surnames of the families and prominent figures associated with the Corradini family at the time. The ensemble consists of two baroque violins, two violas, two cornets, two recorders, archlute (theorbo), organ, and harpsichord. The conductor, harpsichord, and organist is Federico del Sordo, who is also a musicologist.
