Description:
Nicola Francesco Heim, born in Rome in 1678, who had been playing violone and cello in the orchestra led by Arcangelo Corelli since 1694; moved to London in 1701 and served the Duke of Bedford as his "chamber music master" until his death . During this period he produced numerous works, including various instrumental pieces for concerts at the Duke's residence. The works recorded here notice a strong Corelli influence. They were also the first to be published in Italy, making them important for understanding Italian works on the flute in the early 18th century. Violin and Corelli are especially closely linked, and this recording also includes arrangements of Corelli's violin sonatas for flute, as well as Corelli's "Ciaccona," a piece directly borrowed from the violin and improvised into it by the performers.
