Description:
Graupner was a composer born in Kirchberg, Saxony. Most of his works have been forgotten, but he was friends with Telemann, Mattheson and Fasch, and was active in the Leipzig area and was one of the most famous composers of his time. He was also an excellent harpsichord player and seems to have composed and played for himself. He left many works in the traditional partita form, which is said to have later influenced Bach. The prelude that opens the piece is freely conceived, the Courant and Sarabande are melodically inventive, and the Gigue makes a particularly strong impression. This box is a very complete collection of recordings of Graupner's harpsichord works, and is a new and noteworthy recording of the baroque keyboard instrument.
