Although detailed information on Christian Erbach is scarce and unknown, he was an organist and organ teacher in Augsburg, Germany, throughout his life. It is said that he was a very good teacher and attracted both Catholic and Protestant students from many cities. He was an educator second only to Sweelinck, who contributed to the development of the North German organ school at that time. His works for keyboard include many fugues, ricercare, and Magnificat, and his virtuoso style, especially in his Toccata, had a strong influence on the compositional style of the southern German organ. The compositional style is reminiscent of the works of Gabrieli of the Venetian School, and the performance on the majestic and sumptuous Italian organ will give us an insight into the high musicality of Erbach. Manuel Tomadin, who performs, has used and recorded many organs to express the splendor of Elbach's music. Several pieces include organs of great historical value from the time of their composition. Details are indicated in the booklet.Tomadin's efforts to introduce and record so many organ works have resulted in a wonderful box set that one cannot help but be pleased to have discovered yet another composer's work.
