Pasquini was active in the period between Frescobaldi and Domenico Scarlatti. He left mainly keyboard works, and Brilliant Classics has released his harpsichord sonata and organ sonata, among others. On the other hand, he also left more than 70 cantatas, which are concise and dramatic cantatas for one or two voices with basso continuo accompaniment, like those written by the young Handel. Most of the vocal pieces have never been published, making this new recording an extremely valuable and long-awaited addition to the repertoire. It also attests to the fact that Pasquini was the leading composer of dramatic music in Rome at the time. The six pieces for solo bass are marked by a keen sense of theater and expressive richness, and are based on biblical history, Roman history, and pastoral, lustrous tales, interspersed with pieces for harpsichord, imaginatively brought together in one work. held in a Roman palace at the beginning of the 18th century, The impression is of a re-creation of a refined musical evening in a Roman palace in the early 18th century. Harpsichordist Alexandra Nizzito, who leads the Capella Tiberina, has studied Pasquini's vocal music and recorded the cantata for the first time since its composition.He is known as one of the best researchers on this music today.
